From David:
Perhaps some of the standard dog training methods embraced by our culture actually drain the intelligence of our precious canine companions.  So much so, that when confronted with a rattlesnake, skunk or porcupine, who are merely “claiming space”, our canine friends often find themselves not recognizing that style of communication and can therefore get themselves into serious trouble.  Complicating matters, the dog’s energetic signature, which can be impulsive and illogical, directly causes the rattlesnake, skunk or porcupine to escalate their defenses and become much more dangerous.  Tragically, if these encounters go poorly, the canine often learns little and remains an accident waiting to happen during future encounters.

The wolf, coyote and fox, who are masters at reading energetic signatures and making wise decisions, can survive in the wild only if their consciousness becomes the exact opposite of the identity our human culture tends to bestow on our dogs to get them to conform and behave.

What is it that these wild cousins have to teach us about Canine Consciousness and animal communication that would prevent our beloved pets from getting envenomed, quilled or skunked?

Our workshop facilitator, David Sleeper is an Animal Behavior Specialist.  He is writing a book called “The Conscious Canine”.  It will contain simple instructions as to how a dog lover can model behavior that will help a dog become a conscious thinker and a puzzle solver thereby rehabilitating themselves where they can own their self-created identity and own their internal morality. Our Conscious Friends become evolved, very loyal and often free from codependency and enmeshment.    Puzzles get solved.  Life makes sense.  Wisdom prevails.

The energetic signature of a rattlesnake is a puzzle solved.  The Conscious Dog understands the space claiming language of critters, walks softly on the earth and is naturally respectful of another’s space being claimed.  The dog and snake have all they need to make wise decisions and stand down.  Escalating behavior would be insane for either party. Therefore…. as is usual in nature… danger fades when consciousness is present, respect is given and wise decisions are made.

The identity of the Conscious Canine is the opposite of a dog who has had a micro-managed identity bestowed externally via faulty human communication methods, bribery, shaming and fear of punishment.   These methods can create “schizophrenic” internal challenges, impulsiveness and the stress of a life in captivity that often doesn’t make sense. The puppy may learn to abandon the intuitive puzzle solving and creative thinking of the wolf embedded in her DNA.   That will likely help make her survive dog training with less stress, but it won’t likely help her safely interact someday with a rattlesnake simply claiming space.

There are simple alternatives.   Canine Wisdom and Consciousness are obtained relatively easily through common sense understanding of how animals communicate through “claiming space”… and by the dog lover, as a mentor and a resource, doing the exact opposite of normal dog training methods.  These alternatives work wonders with human relationships as well and have the potential to change the world.
This is just one of many methods of dog training. Our presentation of this workshop does not reflect a preference for this method. We are providing this workshop as a service to the community. AHS does not endorse any particular training method, training organization, or individual trainer. We encourage you to find the positive training method that's right for you and your dog.

There are a lot of people who often misunderstand animals. Most of the time, we are surrounded by our fear and cannot make a proper judgement. A mere dog can appear as a huge monster to people who are consumed by their fear. I think that we should try to control our emotions, we cannot let our emotions get the best of us. Animals will never be hostile to those who are not threatening to them, we should do the same thing.
